The Fifth Sculpture Symposium
in Mykolaiv

The Ukrainian town in Mikolaiv, near Lviv, for two hot August weeks, has become a place of not only hard work, but also an exchange of thoughts, experiences, and inspirations for a large and illustrious group of sculptors. Therefore I took the invitation there with great pleasure and joined the artists held there on the fifth symposium of sculpture. Mykolaiv is a unique place for annual meetings of sculptors. The reason for this, among others, are large deposits and the quarry of white limestone. It is worth emphasizing that this is an extremely grateful sculptural material, which also this time did not disappoint as a medium of artistic vision.

The leitmotif of outdoor work this year was “Music in Stone”. My inspiration was the local musical instrument – Bandura. The unusual shape of this local artifact has become an inspiration to compose an abstract form. You may see the results below. Some people see in this composition very interesting variations about the eye.

You may visit the organizer’s site, where you can learn more about the whole project, and refer to the work of other artists.

To sum up, the “Music in stone” open-air can be counted as extremely successful, with many unusual adventures, fantastic people and lots of positive energy. Finally, I would like to thank the organizers, participants and guests, all who have had a smaller or larger contribution to the overall and atmosphere of the event. Thank you for the huge package of great experiences and motivation.
